About this guide
How Also Known As traces names
Every name and date on Also Known As has a source, and every fact was checked on October 7 and 8, 2026. A name that no source dates is not listed.
Where the facts come from
October 7 and 8, 2026: the check dates for every fact on this site. Current details come from the venues' and operators' own pages. Sales come from operator news releases, openings and closures from news reports. Older histories come from encyclopedia entries that carry their own references.
Some venue sites block automated reading. For those, the guide read archived copies of the same pages, dated by month. Great Canadian Casino Vancouver is one of them, and its pages were read from copies dated September 2026.
Distances are straight lines between map coordinates from OpenStreetMap, computed by the guide. They are not driving or walking distances.
How a name gets on the line
A name goes on a casino's line when it has a dated source: a venue or operator page, a news report, or an encyclopedia entry with references. A name that no source dates stays off the line, however familiar it sounds. Where a source gives a year and nothing more, the line shows the year alone. Grand Villa Casino Burnaby opened in 2008, and that is all the date says.
Predecessors are kept separate. Starlight Casino New Westminster followed the Royal City Star, a riverboat that closed its casino on December 9, 2007, when the operation moved ashore. Grand Villa followed Gateway's Burnaby casino on the second floor of the parkade across the street. Each earlier casino appears as a predecessor, not as the same casino under another name.
Owners and hours
Owners and operators are given as of the check date, in the words of the sale announcements.
Hours are local Pacific time, as each venue publishes them. BC is on Pacific time all year. Holiday hours are not given, so they should be checked on the venue's own site. Great Canadian Casino Vancouver and River Rock Casino Resort publish table and poker hours but none for the gaming floor itself. The guide gives no floor hours for either.
Where a venue's pages give different figures, the figure is left out.
Questions
When were the facts on this site checked?
On October 7 and 8, 2026, against the venues' and operators' own pages, news releases, official sources and encyclopedia entries for dated histories.
What if a casino publishes nothing about parking?
Some venues publish no parking statement for casino visitors. The guide then gives only what is published nearby, such as the free parking stated for guests of the Langley hotel and convention centre. It says the casino itself publishes none.
Is a pending sale counted as a change of owner?
No, a pending sale is not a change of owner.
